California Mayor sends offensive "watermelon" email -- now resigns..

..So as we wrap up Black History Month, with the 20th of February marking Barack Obama's 1st complete month as our first African-American (bi-racial) President. What better way to leave February or than just like the way we came in (NY Post's cartoon) -- Right?

So here's our parting gift -- Dean Grose, mayor of the Southern California city Los Alamitos, gets called-out/busted sending an email depicting watermelons on the White House lawn titled "No Easter Egg Hunt at the White House this year." He apparently wasn't thinking and sent it to an African-American woman, Keyanus Price, who had some choose words for him & reported the offense. He of course had a lame excuse for the email and apologized, however Ms. Price is requesting a public apology.

The city is outraged -- and so much that Wednesday morning Grose found a smashed watermelon on his office doorstep! Wow -- so, needless to say he announced today that he'll resign.

So what are your thoughts on this, I have something to say about this of course, but i'll post mine in a followup.. ya dig?

Samuel L. Jackson slated for the remaking of The Last Dragon?!

What do yall know about The Last Dragon huh?! Well, do your homework because it looks like my man Samuel L. Jackson is slated to star as the over-powering Sho'nuff!! Man I can't wait!
-------------
Samuel L. Jackson has the right stuff to play Sho'nuff. The actor is set to star in a remake of the 1985 cult martial arts classic The Last Dragon. Originated by the late Julius Carry, Sho'nuff is the self-proclaimed Shotgun of Harlem, who answers his own questions (e.g. "Am I the baddest mofo lowdown around this town?") with "Sho'nuff."Something tells us, Jackson won't have any trouble playing the "baddest mofo."The 1985 film, a critical bomb, but a financial success, tells the story of Leroy Green's pursuit to become the world's greatest martial arts artist, like his idol Bruce Lee, and achieve the status of the Last Dragon. Mr. Tech Savvy himself, Pres. Barack Obama!

> If you support our President, then surely you are already on his email list right?

How else do you expect to get email like this with updates and video links, etc. Surely we are witnessing the most technology savvy administration ever! I mean Obama had Facebook & Myspace pages. He had iPhone apps so that you got latest news and updates! The mail campaign was crazy -- and even merchandise sold on his site was most unique to any other President that ran for office.

Now of course, i can't lie and say i followed any other President nominee this closely before, but I do know following him was make much easier do to all of the technical instruments used to keep his followers abreast of whats happening! ...so after the race was wrapped and the campaign was done, I actually expected the emails and communication to slow, but to my delight and surprise -- he's still getting the American people in tune with what he is doing via technology. Need I mention that he's the only President with that got to keep his mobile phone (Blackberry) -- and he fought to get it secured so that he could keep it!

I mean really, and the http://www.recovery.gov/ site is another testiment to that. Watch where you money is being used in real time -- now that's what I'm talking about Barack, that's the change I can believe in buddy!!

Carver Students Speak Out in regards to the "Alabama Highschool Brawl"!

This incident has been all over the news, the internet, everywhere! ...and of course it happened right here in my backyard. I got an email today where the students are asking for forgiveness and a little bit of justice? What are your thoughts?

Here's some easy-to-find video of the recent brawl in ASU's Acadome:

CNN Talks about Fight:

------------------------------------
To Whom It May Concern:

Over the past few days a lot of negative publicity has come upon us and not only are we hurt by it, we are down right angry. Yes, there were some bad things that happened, that should never happen, but they happened and we must learn and grow from it. The superintendent has said in today's paper that, "we are going to take a bad situation and turn into a teachable moment. They made a mistake and will have to pay the consequences for it. These are students who need guidance." Well, where is the teaching in this situation? This was truly a teachable moment and as an educator what are you teaching the students, that there is no reward for doing the right thing. Oh yes, that's right no one has publicly stated that there were students who did the right thing. That has not been mentioned in any form of the media except for in the Montgomery Advertiser and not on the front page has a headline because it doesn't sale papers. There were approximately 9-10 students on Carver's bench while the "brawl" as it has been coined, was going on.
All you've heard is that the benches were cleared. Did anyone mention that this was not Valley's first altercation at a basketball game this year, yet they were allowed to participate in post season play? Where is the precedent for fighting with the AHSAA? We must always make an example out of Carver High.

Where is the superintendent, the principal, the assistant principal, the AHSAA saying, "Thank you students, who did what we taught you to do?" Where is the reward for doing the right thing? Yes, basketball is a team sport and we must do things as a team, even suffer punishments, but can anybody say something positive, just one thing?
Superintendent, where are you guiding us, to the streets? You have said you want us out of your school system and go where? We are young black men; about to graduate from high school and start college careers, is our proposal for expulsion going to help us succeed in life? Is your point to teach us that in life no one shows mercy? Is this the type of guidance you are offering? We are products of a school system that you lead and you are saying we need guidance, where is it or is the escort out of your school system and into the streets the guidance you are offering? Who is speaking for us? Does the punishment fit the crime? If this fight would have taken place in Carver's hallways or gymnasium, our punishment would have been a maximum of five days suspension. That is what your school code of behavior states as the consequences for this type of altercation? By the way, at this "school sponsored event" where were the required number of chaperones?

We, who don't have the track record for what happened, that has met AYP for the last few years, who have the highest graduation rate among traditional high schools in your school system, who have been recognized nationally for academics, who have students from other high schools come to "our" teachers for tutoring, deserve the punishment that you are offering? We are hurt, disappointed and just plain disgusted in the lack of support you have shown us publicly and the quickness to rid yourself of the shame. Don't you think that we are embarrassed of the negative public attention that we have received? Can we use this same stage to talk about all the good that goes on at Carver High School?
Just like with any child that you mentor, give birth to or claim their successes, you are not always proud of the choices or the decisions that they make, but you love them through it, you don't just throw salt in the wounds and say live with it, you will know better next time. Don't tell me it could have been a lot worse, what's worse than the people who harp on "One focus, preparing students for life" when the life they are preparing you for is a life that doesn't offer second chances.

We need just one person, one somebody to believe in us and show us some support. If you support us and think that this is an injustice, call the superintendent, John Dilworth at (334)223-6710 or fax (334) 269-3076, the principal, Gary Hall at (334)269-3636 fax number (334) 262-2440, the assistant principal, Michael Gibbs at (334)269-3636 or Executive Director, Steve Savarese at the AHSAA at (334) 263-6994 fax number (334) 387-0075, tell them you support the students and that they are overreacting with there desire to make an example out of us. Thank you so much for giving us a stage to voice our concerns. We know someone in the world still believe in the PRIDE of Carver High School.

Respectfully Submitted,
The Ones Most Affected By This Travesty of Injustice

NY POST: The Message Behind the Cartoon?

Well... I'm sure by now you have already gotten wind of the shot chimpanzee cartoon posted in the NY Post -- right?  If not, this is it right here!  Now tell me, because i don't want to go on a long rant expressing my displeasures with this --- annnd how there are still many & plenty ignorant racist people out there right in your face, in government positions to trying to coerce or even various media positions that won't stop at nothing in order to feed you the bigotry they know as their truth.

Instead i would like to read you're comments -- and post something a "Open Letter to the New York Post" by singer/songwriter John Legend (via Facebook), that says EXACTLY how i feel!  So i echo his sentiments, but what are yours?

Open Letter to the New York Post
5:10pm

Dear Editor:

I'm trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?

If that's not what you intended, then it was stupid and willfully ignorant of you not to connect these easily connectable dots. If it is what you intended, then you obviously wanted to be grossly provocative, racist and offensive to the sensibilities of most reasonable Americans. Either way, you should not have printed this cartoon, and the fact that you did is truly reprehensible. I can't imagine what possible justification you have for this. I've read your lame statement in response to the outrage you provoked. Shame on you for dodging the real issue and then using the letter as an opportunity to attack Rev. Sharpton. This is not about Rev. Sharpton. It's about the cartoon being blatantly racist and offensive.

I believe in freedom of speech, and you have every right to print what you want. But freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. You are responsible for printing this cartoon, and I hope you experience some real consequences for it. I'm personally boycotting your paper and won't do any interviews with any of your reporters, and I encourage all of my colleagues in the entertainment business to do so as well. I implore your advertisers to seriously reconsider their business relationships with you as well.

You should print an apology in your paper acknowledging that this cartoon was ignorant, offensive and racist and should not have been printed.

I'm well aware of our country's history of racism and violence, but I truly believe we are better than this filth. As we attempt to rise above our difficult past and look toward a better future, we don't need the New York Post to resurrect the images of Jim Crow to deride the new administration and put black folks in our place. Please feel free to criticize and honestly evaluate our new President, but do so without the incendiary images and rhetoric.

Sincerely,
John Legend

Now I'm sure errr'body has gotten an ear glimpse (can i say that? 50Cent is a NUTT!!

Preface:

I don't know if any of yall have been following the 50Cent & Rick Ross beef -- but i got to say its been pretty entertaining. I think this is the most interesting one of them all for 50. Since he's income has increased (FORBES rank 50Cent second in income only to Oprah in the entertainment field), so with more disposable income -- when he goes hard on ya (beef), it cuts alot more deeper now! I'm posting some links below so that you can catch up on the time line of events. From Rick Ross dissing 50, to 50 calling it official then flying out Ross's son's mother (baby momma, if you will) and her dropping all kinds of bombs about Ross. And of course a few diss tracks, radio interviews and all in between!!

Now i'm going to say i liked 50 alot when he came out and then i kinda started disliking him slightly for going in on everyone, but i listened to alot of his interviews and this is not a stupid dude. He's very intelligent and knows how to market, and knows how to push the right buttons in warfare. So i stopped tripping and start just taking it for the entertainment it is...

Now is he right for the stuff he does -- i'm going to say, shoot.. 70% of the time i think: "Yo, Fif' didn't have to do that. Man, thats jacked up." But now i don't expect anything else from him other than for him to try to annihilate opposes as quickly as possible by any means necessary. So next up is Ricky Ross... i suppose. All i hope in all of this -- it ends well. From the looks of it though, its about to get ugly! Theres alot of personal stuff thats coming forth on Ross and i don't think he's really prepared to be exposed like this. He's danced around this previous correctional officer career he 'allegedly' had, but Fif is relentless -- he's coming with actual footage & all! He has all of Ross's financial statements that he was able to get because of the current child support case he has going on with his son's mom. Of course now that 50 has everything, Ross's lawyer is asking for a gag order in the trial so there's no more personal docs released (too little too late)!

Anywho! -- i'm not going to talk your ear off, the point of blog was to show this hilarious video of 50 making fun of the comments Rick made about him and the request for an apology from Foxy Brown!

Check the other links below to catch up or see more 50 vs Rick Ross beef episodes!!
